September Is Suicide Awareness Month
It’s Time to Check In…How You Doing?
Hello September!
We all know, that September is everyone's favorite time of the year. September signifies holidays are just around the corner and depending on where you are in the country, it could represent cooler weather!
Ever Wonder, How To Support Someone With Mental Illness?
Supporting others with mental illness is a community effort. It means we first check in on our mental health and then check in with others too. How are you today…? No, seriously, HOW ARE YOU REALLY? You know sometimes you have to add that “really” at the end to let people know, “you don’t have to give politically correct answers with me.” I encourage you to check in with yourself regularly and do so for others, especially your strong friends!
Although September represents a great transition in the year, it also signifies other things that may be changing too. Transitions in work life, home life, weather, and relationships can be hard to navigate. Sometimes those feelings can get overwhelming.
If you know someone (or yourself) who is in a tough transition in life? Help get them connected with support by:
sending them the profile of a therapist you think will be a good fit
asking if they have seen their therapist/psychiatrist lately
asking if they are still taking their meds
Loving others sometimes requires that we take action by having those tough conversations and DO NOT be afraid to call emergency services if you are concerned for someone’s safety. Their life may depend on it.
